Maths and Advanced Maths
Ages 4 to 7 years
`Mathematics` may not be a word that gets anyone in your house excited, but at Kspace we aim to change that!
We take the children well away from Rote Learning and encourage them to explore maths in a fun filled way. By discovering how maths can be used in so many daily activities….. we take the mystery out and put the fun in!
Children join us for an enjoyable first session, and our teachers assess their level and the best methods to teach them. We have two main programmes and your child’s sessions will be tailor-made using a combination of materials and activities from the appropriate course (see below).
Classes are small and we guarantee your child the best environment for learning this tricky subject!
Maths
Our Head Teacher guides our children through an exciting programme, aimed at offering maximum support. Students are getting an introduction to a full range of math concepts such as:
- Counting to 10
- Number recognition to 10
- Patterns and sequencing such as a, b, a, b, a, b
- Shapes recognition such as triangles, squares, circles, rectangles
- Measuring different lengths
- Dividing quantities equally
- Comparing quantities: less and more
- Addition +1, +2
- Subtraction -1, -2
- Ordinal numbers: 1st, 2nd, 3rd
Class Structure
For the first half, the children review the previous concept through games and hands on activities, and doing a review worksheet. The second half introduces a new concept. The children work on these concepts through play, math games and worksheets. Plenty of practical repetition and reiteration ensures understanding, and the children can move at a pace that suits them as challenges build.
Advanced Maths
Although ‘Advanced Maths’ is not listed as a separate class on our weekly schedule, once our older children are fully knowledgeable and have passed all goals, we have a special course waiting for them. They can either study 1-1 with a tutor, set aside in the regular class (with their own sheets and work) or you can ask us to create a small group of your own. All you need is 5 willing students!
With a confident grasp of number recognition up to 10 and basic understanding of the math concepts mentioned above, these mathematicians take on bigger challenge by now applying these concepts into other areas such as fractions, division, and differentiating volumes and measurements. The class moves at a slighter faster pace than our regular 'Maths', and this class is perfect for children who already understand the foundation concepts taught for this age group.
- Counting up to 20 - Number recognition up to 30
- Patterns and sequencing such as a, b, c, a, b, c /or/ a, b, b, a, b, b, a
- Shapes recognition of basic shapes and also ovals, diamonds, pentagons, hexagons
- Measuring liquids and volumes
- Dividing quantities and using fractions
- Comparing quantities: introduction to graphing
- Addition and understanding equation symbols
- Subtraction and understanding equation symbols
- Ordinal numbers up to the tenth place
Class Structure
For the first half, the children review the previous concept through games and hands on activities, and doing a review worksheet. The second half introduces a new concept. The children work on these concepts through play, maths games and worksheets.
